Name Professor Sisira Jayasuriya

Professor Sisira Jayasuriya is a distinguished development economist with extensive expertise in economic policy issues across Asia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Economics from the University of Ceylon (Peradeniya) and both a Master's and Ph.D. from the Australian National University. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Jayasuriya has held significant academic and research positions, including roles at the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines, the Australian National University, the University of Melbourne, and La Trobe University. His consultancy work spans esteemed organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the World Bank, and various United Nations agencies, including ESCAP, FAO, and ILO. 

Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Professor (Research) at the Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability at Monash University. His research focuses on the economic impacts of COVID-19 in Asia, food security and agriculture, the economics of natural disasters, and trade and macroeconomic issues within the region. 

Professor Jayasuriya's scholarly contributions are extensive, with numerous publications addressing critical topics such as food safety, trade, and WTO regulations from a developing country perspective. His work has significantly influenced policy and academic discourse in development economics. 

In recognition of his expertise, he holds honorary positions as a Professorial Affiliate at the Institute of Social and Economic Studies at Osaka University, Japan; Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka; and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi. Professor Jayasuriya's profound knowledge and extensive experience have made him a leading authority in development economics, particularly concerning Asian economies and their complex policy challenges.
